What inspires me (Bill Arnold) to keep going:

Whenever I begin to feel panic and depression over our drastic financial
situation (which seems to repeat itself almost every couple of months), I
re-read Pat's description of her rescue of Blind Dog Stevie back in the
late 1990s, and Pats words inspire me to keep going:

The rescue and adoption of Stevie Nicholson

Pat (10 years ago):

When I went to see this special fellow (at our local county shelter) and walked up to the cage in which he was being kept, the sight of his precious little face took my breath away for a moment. One of his eyes was closed and the other was so visibly deformed it was heartbreaking to look at. I knelt down talking to him gently and put my fingers through the cage door to pet him. He sensed that I was there and began swaying his head from side to side until his face touched my fingers and he nuzzled my hand with his furry little head. I brought him home to take care of forever.

Bill (today):

And we have always been more grateful than anyone will ever know that the Nicholsons adopted Stevie (along with his kennel mate, Little Pete) in the fall of 2000. Mike continues to report from time to time on how wonderful a life Stevie and Pete have had (and are still having) with them.

Hi Poppa Bill,

We wanted to drop you a line to say hi & hope everyone is well @ Straydog. We read your note on the web site & wanted once again to urge anyone interested in or thinking about adopting a blind dog ( and his buddy ) to give it serious consideration. Our life here has always & will always be wonderful. The truly amazing thing is WHO rescued WHO in this situation.

Our DAD believes he is the really lucky one. He says someone can never know the pleasure of seeing a couple of little guys like us evolve to where we are now if they never experienced it. We are happy & spunky as ever! Take care!

Stevie & Little Pete Nicholson

A Note from Bill about our computer situation:

We're down to one old Apple/Macintosh lap top now, running old webpage programs and photo processing programs that were obsolete in the 1990s. We don't have the money or the time to get a new computer or to learn new programs, but when the machine I'm using now finally does give out (it's already beginning to falter and stutter), we'll be forced to get another machine and we'll be forced to learn a new HTML (webpage-building) program, which I am beginning to work on already.

If while I'm in the process of getting a new computer and learning a new program there is an interruption in the posting of our Daily Straydog Update, we will still publish a daily update via e-mail to all those who send us their email addresses. Please e-mail us at Straydog147@yahoo.com if you would like to receive our daily e-mail update should this method become necessary until we get the new system in place and up and running and once again have the ability to publish our updates on this website.

I will leave this message here at the top of our homepage so that if and/or when the above DAY, DATE and TIME stop changing, you'll know that the only way to receive the daily update will be via an e-mail blast to all our readers who are on our e-mail blast list.

Upcoming Adoption Events

We're more than midway through Fall, and we still have some special weekend events in the works.  If you can help at any or all, please e-mail me directly at melsingletary1@yahoo.com or call the shelter at 903-479-3497.  E-mails and more information will be going out closer to each event.

First two weekends in December -
Santa Photos at our regular Petsmart location in Plano, TX.

We have confirmed the dates with Petsmart for Santa photos.  The dates we have been given are Sunday, December 2nd, Sunday, December 9th and Saturday & Sunday December 15th & 16th.  We will provide details and will be asking for volunteers shortly.
Thanks, Melissa

(The weather is very important to us because our dogs live in unheated and uncooled shelters outside,
and many dogs are very much afraid of thunder, lightning, heavy rain and high winds.
We are also very much afraid of the high winds as everything at Straydog could blow away.)
